Unlocking the S.T.A.R.S. office armory in Resident Evil 2 is essential for surviving the horrors of the Raccoon City Police Department. The secured room contains heavy firepower, granting Leon access to the Lightning Hawk Magnum or Claire the MQ 11 Submachine Gun. Navigating the station to retrieve the necessary key items requires executing a specific multi-step puzzle sequence.
Retrieving the Red Jewel from the Art Room
Your journey begins by securing the Red Book from the second-floor Library inside the police station. Take this book to the Art Room located on the east side of the building. Combine the book with the statue arm nearby, reattach it to the statue, and collect the Red Scepter.
Examine the Red Scepter in your inventory to press a button that releases the Red Jewel. This gem serves as the key component for opening a locked container later in your exploration. Keep the jewel safely in your item box until you reach the lower level rooms.
Finding the Bejeweled Box
As you progress through the main story, obtain the key required to access the Observation or Interrogation Room. Search the room thoroughly to locate an ornate Bejeweled Box sitting on the shelves. Place the Red Jewel into the box's socket to unlock its latch.
Inside the box lies the metallic S.T.A.R.S. Badge, a crucial puzzle item. Inspecting the back of this badge reveals a secret button. Pressing the button retracts the metal pin and transforms the badge into a functional USB Dongle Key.
Unlocking the STARS Armory Door
Return to the second floor of the police station's west wing to enter the S.T.A.R.S. office. Locate the terminal terminal next to the locked glass armory door. Insert the USB Dongle Key into the computer tower and interact with the monitor to grant security clearance.
The armory door will open immediately, allowing you to claim your character's high-tier weapon. Do not forget to retrieve your USB Dongle Key after opening the door. You can convert it back into a badge to unlock additional weapons cases hidden deep within the Underground Facility.
